Dovetail Words Privacy Policy

Information stored on your device

Dovetail Words stores game information locally so it can remember your progress and preferences. This may include an active puzzle, collected words, stars, milestones, game history, statistics, unlocked color styles, settings, and tutorial progress.

The gameplay dictionary and word definitions are included with the app. Looking up a word does not send the word or your activity to a server.

Optional iCloud backup

iCloud backup is off by default. If you turn it on, Dovetail Words uses Apple's iCloud key-value storage to back up selected progress to your private iCloud account. This may include:

• Your collected words
• Stars, milestones, and aggregate game statistics
• Daily puzzle history and streaks
• Statistics for each board size

This information is stored by Apple in your private iCloud account. Dovetail Words has no developer-operated server, and the developer cannot inspect your private iCloud data. The app works without iCloud and without an internet connection.

Turning iCloud backup off stops future synchronization from the app. It does not remove information already stored in iCloud. You can manage iCloud data through your Apple account and iCloud settings.

Clipboard access

The puzzle-code screen can read text from the clipboard only after you tap the Paste button. Dovetail Words does not read the clipboard automatically.

Sharing

If you choose to share a puzzle result, Dovetail Words opens the standard iOS share sheet. You decide which app or person receives the content. Dovetail Words does not send shared content to the developer.

Sound and device permissions

Game sounds are created and played on your device. Dovetail Words does not use the microphone, camera, contacts, location, or photo library.

Data collection and tracking

Dovetail Words does not collect personal data, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, crash reports, or tracking information. It does not sell or share personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

Data retention and deletion

Local game data remains on your device until you delete the app. Optional iCloud data is managed through your Apple account. Because the developer cannot access that private data, the developer cannot directly view or delete it for you.

Children's privacy

Dovetail Words does not knowingly collect personal information from children or any other users.

Third-party content

Dictionary definitions are derived from Princeton WordNet 3.0 and are included locally under its license. The full attribution is available in the Credits screen inside the app.

Changes to this policy

If Dovetail Words' privacy practices change, this page will be updated and the date at the top will be revised.
